On recent walks through the neighborhood I've enjoyed stepping off the trail to visit an area that seems particularly attractive to wildlife. The photo above is the small creek before it feeds into a deeper area which then drops about a foot, creating a small waterfall. I've seen snakes, fish, butterflies, deer, and of course many birds here.
House sparrows love catching bugs in this area. Several times I've seen one sparrow with a tasty insect prize being chased by several other sparrows. It's very funny to see them bouncing and flying about, hunting bugs and trying to steal them from their friends.
Their antics remind me to slow down, to appreciate the beauty of the simple and common things around me.
